Range Rover
Power windows can be operated when ignition switch is in ON (I) or RUN (II) position. Windows can be operated (except for one-touch mode) for approximately 45 seconds after ignition is turned to OFF (0) position, provided a front door is not opened. The front windows are controlled by the BECM through front door outstations and a center console switch outstation. Rear windows are controlled directly by BECM which responds to operation request of the applicable rear window switch.
When any power window switch is pressed in either direction for less than 0.4 second, one-touch mode is activated. Window will move in selected direction until an obstruction is detected (close only) or motor stalls. This mode can be cancelled by operating power window switch in opposite direction. One-touch mode on rear window is a programmable feature using a Land Rover TestBook.
When any power window switch is pressed in either direction for more than 0.4 second, INCH mode is activated. Window will move in selected direction until an obstruction is detected (close only), limit of travel is reached or switch is released.
All windows can be activated independently from each other, and may operate in parallel. If there is any conflict between any of the switches, power window switch located in center console will have top priority. A rear isolation switch located in center console can be used to prevent rear window operation by rear door switches.
Front and rear window systems have an anti-trap function to prevent injury to driver or passengers. If vehicle battery is disconnected anti-trap and one-touch functions will be cancelled until windows are initialized. Initialization of the windows enables one-touch function on the front windows and the anti-trap function on all windows after battery has been disconnected. See WINDOW INITIALIZATION .
Anti-trap function is capable of detecting a trap situation over the full range of window opening. When a trap situation is detected, BECM will open a rear window approximately 7.8" (200 mm) or until motor stalls. BECM will fully open a front window to motor stall position when a trap situation is detected. Anti-trap is sensed by 2 Hall Effect sensors located within each window motor. Sensors output pulses to the BECM at a frequency of 62.5 Hz. When a trap condition occurs, a reduced pulse frequency is detected by the BECM, which immediately backs off affected window. In extreme temperature conditions the window mechanism may become partly frozen causing the window anti-trap function to operate. Anti-trap can be overridden by operating window switch in the up position within 10 seconds of BECM detection of the trap situation. The window up function will only operate in INCH mode and anti-trap override will only continue for as long as the switch is pressed. Anti-trap override is displayed in message center by an ANTI TRAP OFF message and affected window specified. There will be 3 audible warning chimes that will sound and will be repeated continuously while the window is operated with anti-trap override active. Anti-trap override is only available from window control switches in center console.
