Disabling Air Bag System
WARNING:
Wait at least 20 minutes after disabling air bag system before removing driver or passenger air bag modules. Air bag system stores enough energy to deploy air bags for up to 20 minutes.
Turn ignition off and remove ignition key from ignition switch. Disconnect negative battery cable, then positive battery cable. WAIT at least 20 minutes. Disconnect driver-side shorting link located under steering column. Loosen 4 driver-side air bag module screws. Remove air bag module and disconnect harness connector from air bag module. Position air bag module on clean work bench with pad facing upward, away from heat, oil, grease, detergent or water.
