Self-Diagnostic System: Notes

NOTE: All diagnostic information, specifications and test procedures for current models is contained in Land Rover proprietary TestBook system.

ECM is equipped with an OBD-II compliant self-diagnostic system which detects system failures or abnormalities. When system failure occurs, Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) in instrument panel is illuminated.

By analyzing various input signals system sensors, ECM detects system failures related to ignition, fueling or exhaust systems. ECM stores Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) associated with a detected failure until diagnostic system is cleared. A 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC) is used for vehicle diagnostics. On Defender 90, DLC is located behind fuse cover in center console. On Discovery, DLC is located under steering wheel.
