Anti-Theft Systems: Operation
Anti-theft system provides perimetric protection and volumetric protection (if equipped). In perimetric mode, vehicle is protected from unauthorized opening of doors, hood and tailgate. In volumetric mode, vehicle is protected from unauthorized intrusion into passenger compartment. When an intrusion is detected in either mode, alarm (vehicle's horns) will sound intermittently and visual indicators (hazard lights) will flash. Alarm can be triggered a maximum of 3 times during any set/unset period.
When perimetric protection is activated, alarm will be triggered when any door, hood, or tailgate is opened. Alarm will also be triggered if ignition key is inserted (after 5 seconds in unlocked position), or inertia switch is tripped. Cranking is disabled when perimetric protection is armed.
Volumetric protection is provided by an ultrasonic sensor. Ultrasonic sensor operates by emitting an air pressure carrier wave. Any movement that disturbs the wave will be detected. Volumetric mode is activated by using transmitter. Cranking is also disabled when volumetric protection is armed.
Alarm status is indicated by theft LED, hazard lights, and horn. When vehicle arms, hazard lights flash 3 times and LED flashes rapidly for 10 seconds then at a lower rate for duration of time vehicle is armed. If when arming, the hazard lights flash once for 3 seconds, transmitter batteries need to be replaced. When vehicle is disarmed, hazard lights will flash once and LED will turn off. If LED stays lit after system has been disarmed, it indicates alarm has been triggered. Turning on ignition will reset LED.
