Steering Columns: Overhaul: Disassembly

  1. Index mark steering shaft and lower shaft. Remove bolt mounting steering column shaft with lower shaft and separate. Do not lose spring.
  2. Remove mounting screw and take off turn signal light assembly and windshield wiper control. Remove snap ring, tap on steering shaft and drive out lower bearing.
  3. Remove steering shaft, turn it upside down and refit in steering column. Drive upper bearing from steering column. Inspect both bearings and replace if found defective.
