Timing Chain Cover: Removal

CAUTION: Since there is a risk of injury due to high pressure fuel leakage, do not perform any work right after the engine is stopped.
NOTE:
  • Use a fender cover to protect the painted surface.
  • Be careful not to damage the connector when disconnecting.
  • When removing timing chain cover, remove the Variable Force Solenoid (VFS) first.

Information 

Mark all wiring and hoses to prevent incorrect connections.

  1. Remove the engine cover.

    (Refer to Engine and Transaxle Assembly - "ENGINE COVER ")

  2. Remove the engine room under cover.

    (Refer to Engine and Transaxle Assembly - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  3. Drain the engine coolant.

    (Refer to Cooling System - "COOLANT ")

  4. Drain the engine oil.

    (Refer to Lubrication System - "ENGINE OIL ")

  5. Remove the air cleaner assembly.

    (Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "AIR CLEANER ")

  6. Remove the surge tank.

    (Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "SURGE TANK ")

  7. Remove the oil filter and oil cooler.

    (Refer to Lubrication System - "OIL FILTER & OIL COOLER ")

  8. Remove the LH and RH head cover.

    (Refer to Cylinder Head Assembly - "CYLINDER HEAD COVER ")

  9. Remove the drive belt.

    (Refer to Drive Belt System - "DRIVE BELT ")

  10. Remove the drive belt tensioner.

    (Refer to Drive Belt System - "DRIVE BELT TENSIONER ")

  11. Remove the idler.

    (Refer to Drive Belt System - "IDLER ")

  12. Remove the crankshaft damper pulley.

    (Refer to Drive Belt System - "CRANKSHAFT DAMPER PULLEY ")

  13. Remove the water inlet fitting.

    (Refer to Cooling System - "WATER INLET FITTING ASSEMBLY ")

  14. Remove the water outlet hose (A).

  15. Remove the oil cooler outlet pipe and hose (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb.ft)

  16. Remove the engine support bracket (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    42.2 - 53.9 N.m (4.3 - 5.5 kgf.m, 31.1 - 39.8 lb.ft)

  17. Remove the Variable Force Solenoid (VFS) (A).

    NOTE: When removing timing chain cover, remove the Variable Force Solenoid (VFS) first.
  18. Remove the water pump bolts (A).

  19. Remove the timing chain cover (A)
