Timing Chain Cover: Removal
- Use a fender cover to protect the painted surface.
- Be careful not to damage the connector when disconnecting.
- When removing timing chain cover, remove the Variable Force Solenoid (VFS) first.
Information
Mark all wiring and hoses to prevent incorrect connections.
- Remove the engine cover.

- Remove the engine room under cover.
(Refer to Engine and Transaxle Assembly - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")
- Drain the engine coolant.
(Refer to Cooling System - "COOLANT ")
- Drain the engine oil.
(Refer to Lubrication System - "ENGINE OIL ")
- Remove the air cleaner assembly.
(Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "AIR CLEANER ")
- Remove the surge tank.
(Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "SURGE TANK ")
- Remove the oil filter and oil cooler.
(Refer to Lubrication System - "OIL FILTER & OIL COOLER ")
- Remove the LH and RH head cover.
(Refer to Cylinder Head Assembly - "CYLINDER HEAD COVER ")
- Remove the drive belt.
(Refer to Drive Belt System - "DRIVE BELT ")
- Remove the drive belt tensioner.
(Refer to Drive Belt System - "DRIVE BELT TENSIONER ")
- Remove the idler.
(Refer to Drive Belt System - "IDLER ")
- Remove the crankshaft damper pulley.
(Refer to Drive Belt System - "CRANKSHAFT DAMPER PULLEY ")
- Remove the water inlet fitting.
(Refer to Cooling System - "WATER INLET FITTING ASSEMBLY ")
- Remove the water outlet hose (A).
- Remove the oil cooler outlet pipe and hose (A).
Tightening torque:
9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb.ft)
- Remove the engine support bracket (A).
Tightening torque:
42.2 - 53.9 N.m (4.3 - 5.5 kgf.m, 31.1 - 39.8 lb.ft)
- Remove the Variable Force Solenoid (VFS) (A).

NOTE: When removing timing chain cover, remove the Variable Force Solenoid (VFS) first. - Remove the water pump bolts (A).
- Remove the timing chain cover (A)
