DTC P2181-00: Cooling System Performance: General Description
The Electric Thermostat (ECT) is controlled by ECM according to the driving conditions. The ECM controls the ECT to increase the engine coolant temperature to reduce friction under low load conditions, and when high load conditions or knocking occurs, the engine coolant temperature is lowered to enhance driving performance. The wax contained in ECT expands when heated by the heater as well as the engine coolant, thereby controlling the flow path of the engine coolant.
