Automatic Transaxle System: Removal: Removal

  1. Remove the engine room under cover.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  2. Drain the coolant.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "COOLANT ")

  3. Remove the air cleaner assembly.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "AIR CLEANER ")

  4. Remove the battery and battery tray.

    (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "BATTERY ")

  5. Separate the main wiring protector (A) from the body frame.

  6. Perform the procedures below according to shift lever type.

    SBW (Shift By Wire) 

    1. Disconnect the connectors (A, B, C) and remove the wiring fixing clip.
      1. Electronic shift actuator
      2. Position sensor connector
      3. Main connector

      SBC (Shift By Cable) 

    1. Disconnect the connector (A, B).
      1. Main connector
      2. Position switch connector

    2. Remove the wiring fixing clip (A) on the bracket.

    3. Remove the shift cable (C) by removing the bolts (A) and nut (B).

      Tightening torque: 

      1. 14.7 - 21.6 N.m (1.5 - 2.2 kgf.m, 10.9 - 15.9 lb.ft)
      2. 9.8 - 14.7 N.m (1.0 - 1.5 kgf.m, 7.2 - 10.8 lb.ft)

  7. Remove the wiring fixing clip (A) on the bracket.

  8. Remove the ground cable (A) after removing the bolt.

    Tightening torque: 

    26.5 - 32.4 N.m (2.7 - 3.3 kgf.m, 19.5 - 23.9 lb.ft)

  9. Separate the coolant hose (A, B).

  10. Remove the CKP sensor (A) after removing the bolt.

    Tightening torque: 

    9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb.ft)

  11. Remove the automatic transaxle upper mounting bolts (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    42.2 - 53.9 N.m (4.3 - 5.5 kgf.m, 31.1 - 39.8 lb.ft)

  12. Remove the radiator upper cover (A).

  13. Remove the cowl top cover.

    (Refer to Body - "COWL TOP COVER ")

  14. Assemble the engine support fixture on the engine room.

    (Refer to Special Service Tools - "ENGINE SUPPORT FIXTURE ASSEMBLY DRAWING ")

  15. Remove the left side front wheel guard.

    (Refer to Body - "FRONT WHEEL GUARD ")

  16. Support the automatic transaxle on a jack.

  17. Remove the automatic transaxle mounting bracket bolts (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    107.9 - 127.5 N.m (11.0 - 13.0 kgf.m, 79.6 - 94.0 lb.ft)

    NOTE: When tightening the bolts, tighten the lower bolt first before tighten the upper bolt.
  18. Remove the automatic transaxle support bracket (C) after removing the bolts (A) and nuts (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    1. 78.5 - 98.0 N.m (8.0 - 10.0 kgf.m, 57.9 - 72.3 lb.ft)
    2. 58.9 - 78.5 N.m (6.0 - 8.0 kgf.m, 43.4 - 57.9 lb.ft)

  19. Remove the cover (A) after removing the bolt.

    Tightening torque: 

    9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb.ft)

  20. Remove the torque converter mounting 6 bolts (A) by rotating the crankshaft in clockwise direction.

    Tightening torque: 

    45.1 - 52.0 N.m (4.6 - 5.3 kgf.m, 33.3 - 38.3 lb.ft)

    WARNING:
    • Do not reuse torque converter mounting bolts.
    • Lubricate the threads before tightening the torque converter mounting bolts (A).

    • Pre-tighten the all torque converter mounting bolts (6pcs), then tighten to the specified torque securely.
  21. Remove the drive shaft assembly.

    (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")

  22. Remove the front sub frame.

    (Refer to Suspension System - "FRONT SUB FRAME ")

  23. Remove the roll rod support bracket (A) by removing the bolts.

    Tightening torque: 

    49.0 - 68.6 N.m (5.0 - 7.0 kgf.m, 36.1 - 50.6 lb.ft)

  24. Support the automatic transaxle securely using a jack.

  25. Remove the starter mounting bolts (A) and automatic transaxle lower mounting bolts (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    1. 49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb.ft)
    2. 41.2 - 46.1 N.m (4.2 - 4.7 kgf.m, 30.4 - 34.0 lb.ft)

  26. After separating the automatic transaxle from the engine, remove the automatic transaxle by lowering the jack slowly.

NOTE: Be careful not to damage other nearby systems or parts when removing the automatic transaxle assembly.
