Timing Chain: Removal

  1. Remove the RH and LH cylinder head cover.

    (Refer to Cylinder Head Assembly - "CYLINDER HEAD COVER ")

  2. Place the piston of No. 1 cylinder at the compression TDC.
    1. Turn the crankshaft pulley clockwise, and align its groove with the timing mark of the timing chain cover.

    2. Rotate the camshaft so that the timing mark on the camshaft sprocket is in line with the top of the cylinder head to place the No. 1 cylinder at the TDC.

    NOTE: Do not rotate engine counterclockwise.
  3. Remove the timing chain cover.

    (Refer to Timing System - "TIMING CHAIN COVER ")

  4. Remove the oil pump chain tensioner (A).

  5. Remove the oil pump sprocket (A) and oil pump chain (B).

  6. Remove the RH timing chain cam to cam guide (A).

  7. Grab the ratchet clamp (A) and compress the timing chain tensioner in the direction of (B), then install the retaining pin (C).

  8. Remove the RH timing chain tensioner (A).

  9. Remove the RH timing chain tensioner arm (A).

  10. Remove the RH timing chain (A).

  11. Remove the timing chain guide (A).

  12. Remove the LH timing chain to cam guide (A).

  13. Grab the ratchet clamp (A) and compress the timing chain tensioner in the direction of (B), then install the retaining pin (C).

  14. Remove the LH timing chain tensioner (A) with adapter.

  15. Remove the LH timing chain tensioner arm (A).
