Repair Procedures: Replacement
- Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
- Turn the steering wheel so that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.
- Remove the driver airbag module.
(Refer to Restraint - "DRIVER AIRBAG (DAB) MODULE AND CLOCK SPRING ")
- Remove the steering wheel.
(Refer to Steering System - "STEERING WHEEL ")
- Remove the steering column shroud panel.
(Refer to Body - "STEERING COLUMN SHROUD PANEL ")
- Remove the clock spring.
(Refer to Restraint - "DRIVER AIRBAG (DAB) MODULE AND CLOCK SPRING ")
- Remove the multifunction switch assembly.
(Refer to Body Electrical System - "MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH ")
- Remove the crash pad lower panel.
(Refer to Body - "CRASH PAD LOWER PANEL ")
- Remove the knee airbag (KAB) module.
(Refer to Restraint - "KNEE AIRBAG (KAB) MODULE ")
- Disconnect the MDPS ECU connectors (A).
- Disconnect the wiring (A) from the steering column.
- Loosen the bolt (A) and then remove the universal joint (B).
Tightening torque:
32.4 - 37.3 N.m (3.3 - 3.8 kgf.m, 23.9 - 27.5 lb.ft)
NOTE:- The clock springs inner cable may be damaged in case the steering wheel moves. Make sure to put the steering wheel in the center position.
- Do not reuse the bolt.
- Lock the steering wheel in the straight ahead position to prevent the damage of the clock spring inner cable.
- When assembling, insert the shark pin into the universal joint york slot as the below illustration.
- Loosen the steering column lower mounting bolt (A).
Tightening torque:
53.9 - 58.8 N.m (5.5 - 6.0 kgf.m, 39.8 - 43.4 lb.ft)
- Loosen the steering column upper mounting nuts (A) and then remove the steering column & shaft (B).
Tightening torque:
24.5 - 29.4 N.m (2.5 - 3.0 kgf.m, 18.1 - 21.7 lb.ft)
- Install in the reverse order of removal.
- Perform the "Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) Calibration " and "EPS Type Recognition ".
