Repair Procedures: Removal

  1. Remove the under cover.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  2. Drain the coolant.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "COOLANT ")

  3. Separate the coolant hose (A) and then remove the coolant pipe mounting bolt (B).

  4. Remove the air duct and the air cleaner assembly.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "AIR CLEANER ")

  5. Remove the battery and battery tray.

    (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "BATTERY ")

  6. Disconnect the main connector (A) and position switch connector (B) and then remove the wiring mounting clips (C) from the bracket.

  7. Remove the shift cable (C) after loosening the nut (A) and bolts (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    1. 7.8 - 11.8 N.m (0.8 - 1.2 kgf.m, 5.8 - 8.7 lb.ft)
    2. 14.7 - 21.6 N.m (1.5 - 2.2 kgf.m, 10.9 - 15.9 lb.ft)

  8. Remove the wiring mounting bolts (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb.ft)

  9. Separate the ATF cooler hose (A).

  10. Remove the ground line after loosening the bolt (A).

  11. Separate the coolant hose (A) and then remove the coolant pipe (B) after loosening a mounting bolt (C).

    Tightening torque: 

    9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb.ft)

  12. Remove the CKP sensor (A) loosening the bolt.

    Tightening torque: 

    6.9 - 9.8 N.m (0.7 - 1.0 kgf.m, 5.1 - 7.2 lb.ft)

  13. Remove the transaxle upper mounting bolts (A, B).

    Tightening torque: 

    1. 32.4 - 49.0 N.m (3.3 - 5.0 kgf.m, 23.9 - 36.2 lb.ft)
    2. 63.7 - 83.4 N.m (6.5 - 8.5 kgf.m, 47.0 - 61.5 lb.ft)

  14. Install the engine support fixture on the engine room.
    1. Remove the covers (A).

    2. Assemble the engine support fixture on the engine room.

      (Refer to Special Service Tools - "ENGINE SUPPORT FIXTURE ASSEMBLY DRAWING ")

  15. Remove the under cover.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  16. Remove the left side front wheel guard.

    (Refer to Body - "FRONT WHEEL GUARD ")

  17. Support the transaxle on a jack.
  18. Remove the cover (A).

  19. Remove the transaxle mounting bracket bolts (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb.ft)

  20. Remove the transaxle support bracket (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    58.9 - 78.5 N.m (6.0 - 8.0 kgf.m, 43.4 - 57.9 lb.ft)

  21. Remove the sub frame.

    (Refer to Suspension System - "SUB FRAME ")

  22. Remove the drive shaft assembly.

    (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ")

  23. Remove the transfer assembly. [4WD only]

    (Refer to 4 Wheel Drive System - "FRONT WHEEL TRANSFER ASSEMBLY ")

  24. Remove the cover (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb.ft)

  25. Remove the torque converter mounting bolts (A) by rotating the crankshaft.

    Tightening torque: 

    45.1 - 52.0 N.m (4.6 - 5.3 kgf.m, 33.3 - 38.3 lb.ft)

  26. Remove the roll rod bracket (C) after loosening the bolts (A, B).

    Tightening torque: 

    1. 107.9 - 127.5 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 79.6 - 94.0 lb.ft)
    2. 49.0 - 63.7 N.m (11.0 - 13.0 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb.ft)

    NOTE: Replace bolt (B) with a new one or install after applying sealant (3M 2353) as shown in the illustration below.

  27. Remove the roll rod support bracket (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    49.0 - 68.6 N.m (5.0 - 7.0 kgf.m, 36.2 - 50.6 lb.ft)

  28. Remove the starter mounting bolts (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb.ft)

  29. Remove the transaxle lower mounting bolts (A, B).

    Tightening torque: 

    1. 39.2 - 46.1 N.m (4.0 - 4.7 kgf.m, 28.9 - 34.0 lb.ft)
    2. 78.5 - 98.1 N.m (8.0 - 10.0 kgf.m, 57.9 - 72.3 lb.ft)

    NOTE: After mounting the automatic transaxle to the engine by pushing the automatic transaxle, tighten the mounting bolts after check that there is no gap (A) between the torque converter housing (B) and the engine block (C).

  30. After separating the transaxle from the engine, remove the transaxle by lowering the jack slowly.
    NOTE: Be careful not to damage other nearby systems or parts when removing the transaxle assembly.
