Repair Procedures: Replacement

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
  2. Turn the steering wheel so that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.
  3. Remove the driver airbag module.

    (Refer to Restraint - "DRIVER AIRBAG (DAB) MODULE AND CLOCK SPRING ")

  4. Disconnect the connector.

  5. Loosen the lock bolt (A) and then remove the steering wheel.

    Tightening torque: 

    39.2 - 49.0 N.m (4.0 - 5.0 kgf.m, 28.9 - 36.2 lb.ft)

    CAUTION: Do not hammer on the steering wheel to remove it; it may damage the steering column.
  6. Loosen the shroud upper and lower screw and then remove the shroud.

  7. Disconnect the connector and clip.

  8. Remove the clock spring.

    (Refer to Restraint - "DRIVER AIRBAG (DAB) MODULE AND CLOCK SPRING ")

  9. Remove the multi function switch.

    (Refer to Body Electrical System -"MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH ")

  10. Remove the crash pad.

    (Refer to Body (Interior and Exterior) - "CRASH PAD ")

  11. Remove the knee air bag.

    (Refer to Restraint - "KNEE AIR BAG(KAB) ")

  12. Remove the universal joint bolt (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    29.4 - 34.3 N.m (3.0 - 3.5 kgf.m, 21.7 - 25.3 lb.ft)

    CAUTION:
    • Keep the neutral-range to prevent the damaging of the clock spring inner cable when handing the steering wheel.
    • Do not reuse the bolt.
  13. Loosen the steering column nuts (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    24.5 - 29.4 N.m (2.5 - 3.0 kgf.m, 18.1 - 21.7 lb.ft)

  14. Disconnect the MDPS connector (A).

  15. Disconnect the MDPS connector (A).

  16. Loosen the steering column mounting bolt (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    44.1 - 49.0 N.m (4.5 - 5.0 kgf.m, 32.5 - 36.2 lb.ft)

  17. Install in the reverse order of removal.
