CAN communication Circuit Inspection

  1. Connect all unit/module's connector.
  2. IG key "ON", Engine "OFF".
  3. Measure the voltage between the terminal of BCM* harness connector and Chassis Ground as below.
    Item Normal Value Prerequisite condition (+) Probe (-) Probe
    B-CAN High Open/Short: Voltage Below 5V (1.5V~3.5V)
    1. Ignition switch: ON
    2. All unit/module's connector: Connect
    BCM*_"B-CAN High" Chassis Ground
    B-CAN Low Open/Short: Voltage BCM*_"B-CAN Low" Chassis Ground
  4. Is the voltage within specification?

    YES 

    • Disconnect B-CAN communication unit/module one by one and monitor DTC to find the cause.

      → If the DTC erase, substitute the unit/module with an usable one, and check for proper operation.

      → Repair or replace the harness/connector as necessary, and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair " procedure.

    NO 

    • If the measured value is Battery Voltage Level (12V),

      → Repair Short between the harness and Battery Power.

    • If the measured value is Ground Level (0V),

      → Repair Short between "B-CAN High" line and "B-CAN Low" line.

      → Repair Open/Poor Contact in the harness.

      → Repair Short between the harness and Chassis Ground.

    NOTE: BCM*: "BCM"
