Repair Procedures: Replacement

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
  2. Turn the steering wheel so that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.
  3. Remove the driver airbag module.

    (Refer to " DRIVER AIRBAG (DAB) MODULE AND CLOCK SPRING  ") 

  4. Disconnect the connector.

  5. Loosen the bolt (A) and then remove the steering wheel.

    Tightening torque: 

    39.2 - 49.0 N.m (4.0 - 5.0 kgf.m, 28.9 - 36.1 lb.ft)

    CAUTION:
    • Do not hammer on the steering wheel to remove it; it may damage the steering column.
    • Do not reuse the bolt.
  6. Loosen the screw and then remove the lower shroud.

  7. Remove the clock spring.

    (Refer to " DRIVER AIRBAG (DAB) MODULE AND CLOCK SPRING  ") 

  8. Loosen the screw (A) and disconnect the connector (B) to remove the multifunction switch.

  9. Remove the crash pad lower panel.

    (Refer to " CRASH PAD LOWER PANEL  ") 

  10. Remove the knee airbag.

    (Refer to " KNEE AIRBAG (KAB)  ") 

  11. Remove the universal joint bolt (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    32.4 - 37.3 N.m (3.3 - 3.8 kgf.m, 23.9 - 27.5 lb.ft)

    CAUTION:
    • Keep the neutral-range to prevent damaging the clock spring inner cable when steering the wheel.
    • Do not reuse the bolt.
  12. Disconnect the MDPS connector.

  13. Loosen the steering column nuts.

    Tightening torque: 

    24.5 - 29.4 N.m (2.5 - 3.0 kgf.m, 18.1 - 21.7 lb.ft)

  14. Loosen the steering column bolt and then remove the steering column.

    Tightening torque: 

    53.9 - 58.8 N.m (5.5 - 6.0 kgf.m, 39.8 - 43.4 lb.ft)

  15. Install in the reverse order of removal.
