Removal and Installation

  1. Remove the front wheel and tire (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    107.9 - 127.5 N.m (11.0 - 13.0 kgf.m, 79.6 - 94.0 lb.ft)

    NOTE: Be careful not to damage the hub bolts when removing the front wheel and tire.
  2. Disconnect the front wheel speed sensor (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    8.8 - 13.7 N.m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf.m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb.ft)

  3. Disconnect the brake hose bracket (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    8.8 - 13.7 N.m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf.m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb.ft)

  4. Remove the brake caliper mounting bolts (A), and then hold the brake caliper assembly with wire.

    Tightening torque: 

    78.4 - 98.0 N.m (8.0 - 10.0 kgf.m, 57.8 - 72.3 lb.ft)

  5. Disconnect the tie rod end ball joint from the knuckle by using the SST (09568-1S100).
    1. Remove the split pin (A).
    2. Remove the castle nut (B).

      Tightening torque: 

      34.3 - 44.1 N.m (3.5 - 4.5 kgf.m, 25.3 - 32.5 lb.ft)

    3. Disconnect the tie rod end ball joint from the knuckle by using the SST (09568-1S100).

  6. Disconnect the lower arm from the knuckle by using the SST (09568-1S100).
    1. Remove the lower arm nut (A).

      Tightening torque: 

      58.8 - 70.6 N.m (6.0 - 7.2 kgf.m, 43.4 - 52.1 lb.ft)

    2. Disconnect the lower arm from the knuckle by using the SST (09568-1S100).

      NOTE:
      • When using SST, be sure not to damage the dust cover of lower arm ball joint.
      • Keep SST tied to the car because there is a risk of injury by dropping the SST during removing the lower arm ball joint.
      • The peripheral parts may be damaged when removing the lower arm ball joint with a general tool such as lever, so be sure to use SST.
  7. By hammering on a chisel, unlock the driveshaft lock hub nut caulking.

    NOTE: If there is screw thread (A) on the end of the nut, unlock the caulking by using a chisel and then loosen the nut to prevent damaging driveshaft screw thread.

  8. Remove the caulking nut (A) from the front axle.

    Tightening torque: 

    274.6 - 294.2 N.m (28.0 - 30.0 kgf.m, 202.5 - 217.0 lb.ft)

    NOTE:
    • The driveshaft lock nut must be replaced with new one. When replacing the drive lock hub nut, use only the nut with screw thread (A) on the end.

    • Tighten the driveshaft lock hub nut to the specified tightening torque, and caulk by using a chisel and hammer.
    • If there are two key seats, perform on all two seats.

      Caulking depth (A):  1.5 mm (0.0591 in)

  9. Using a SST (09517-4E000), disconnect the driveshaft from the axle hub.

  10. Loosen the screws and then remove the front brake disc (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    4.9 - 5.9 N.m (0.5 - 0.6 kgf.m, 3.6 - 4.3 lb.ft, 43.4 - 52.1 lb in)

  11. Loosen the front strut (A) bolts and nuts and then remove the knuckle assembly.

    Tightening torque: 

    156.9 - 176.5 N.m (16.0 - 18.0 kgf.m, 115.7 - 130.2 lb.ft)

    NOTE: Be careful not to damage the stabilizer boots link boots and ball joint boots.
  12. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  13. Check the front alignment.
