Repair Procedures: Removal

  1. Remove the under cover.

    (Refer to "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  2. Drain the coolant.

    (Refer to "COOLANT ")

  3. Remove the air duct and the air cleaner assembly.

    (Refer to "AIR CLEANER ")

  4. Remove the battery and battery tray.

    (Refer to "BATTERY ")

  5. Disconnect the solenoid valve connector (A) and inhibitor switch connector (B).

  6. Remove the ground line after loosening the bolt (A).

  7. Remove the wiring from the bracket (A, B).

  8. Remove the shift cable (C) after loosening the nut (A) and bolts (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    1. 7.8 ~ 11.8 N.m (0.8 ~ 1.2 kgf.m, 5.8 ~ 8.7 lb-ft)
    2. 14.7 ~ 21.6 N.m (1.5 ~ 2.2 kgf.m, 10.9 ~ 15.9 lb-ft)

  9. Remove the coolant pipe by loosening bolts (A) after removing the hose.

    Tightening torque: 

    8.8 ~ 13.7 N.m (0.9 ~ 1.4 kgf.m, 6.5 ~ 10.1 lb-ft)

  10. Remove the CKP sensor (A).

  11. Remove the transaxle upper mounting bolts (A, B).

    Tightening torque: 

    1. 63.7 ~ 83.4 N.m (6.5 ~ 8.5 kgf.m, 47.0 ~ 61.5 lb-ft)
    2. 32.4 ~ 49.0 N.m (3.3 ~ 5.0 kgf.m, 23.9 ~ 36.2 lb-ft)

  12. Remove the covers (A) on both side and then loosen the head lamp bolts.

  13. Assemble the engine support fixture on the engine room.

    (Refer to "ENGINE SUPPORT FIXTURE ASSEMBLY DRAWING ")

  14. Remove the front wheel guard.

    (Refer to FRONT WHEEL GUARD )

  15. Remove the cover (A).

  16. Remove the transaxle mounting bracket bolts (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    88.3 ~ 107.9 N.m (9.0 ~ 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 ~ 79.8 lb-ft)

  17. Remove the transaxle support bracket (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    58.9 ~ 78.5 N.m (6.0 ~ 8.0 kgf.m, 43.4 ~ 57.9 lb-ft

  18. Remove the sub frame assembly.

    (Refer to SUB FRAME )

  19. Remove the drive shaft assembly.

    (Refer to "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")

  20. Remove the transfer assembly.

    (4WD vehicle only)

    (Refer to "FRONT WHEEL TRANSFER ASSEMBLY ")

  21. Remove the roll support bracket (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    49.0 ~ 68.6 N.m (5.0 ~ 7.0 kgf.m, 36.2 ~ 50.6 lb-ft)

  22. Remove the wiring bracket (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    42.2 ~ 49.0 N.m (4.3 ~ 5.0 kgf.m, 31.1 ~ 36.2 lb-ft)

  23. Remove the cover (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    9.8 ~ 11.8 N.m (1.0 ~ 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 ~ 8.7 lb-ft)

  24. Remove the torque converter mounting bolts (A) by rotating the crankshaft.

    Tightening torque: 

    45.1 ~ 52.0 N.m (4.6 ~ 5.3 kgf.m, 33.3 ~ 38.3 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • When installing, lubricant should be applied on thread of bolt before tightening.
    • When installing, tighten the bolts loosely, and then tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
  25. Support the transaxle safely by using the jack.
  26. Loosen the starter mounting bolts (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    1. 49.0 ~ 63.7 N.m (5.0 ~ 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 ~ 47.0 lb-ft)

  27. Loosen the transaxle lower mounting bolts (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    1. 39.2 ~ 46.1 N.m (4.0 ~ 4.7 kgf.m, 28.9 ~ 34.0 lb-ft)
    2. 78.5 ~ 98.1 N.m (8.0 ~ 10.0 kgf.m, 57.9 ~ 72.3 lb-ft)

  28. After separating the transaxle from the engine, remove the transaxle by lowering the jack slowly.
