Signal Circuit Inspection

  1. Ignition "OFF".
  2. Refer to ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR (ECTS) and disconnect Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor connector.
  3. Ignition "ON".
  4. Measure voltage between Pin No. 3 (Signal) terminal of Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor harness connector and chassis ground.

    Specification:  Approx. 5V

  5. Ignition "OFF".
  6. Disconnect Battery (-) terminal.
  7. Refer to ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR (ECTS) and disconnect Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor connector.
  8. Measure resistance between Pin No. 3 (Signal) terminal of Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor harness connector and chassis ground.

    Specification:  ∞ (infinite) Ω

  9. Is the measured value within specification?

    YES 

    NO 

    • Repair open or short in signal circuit between Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor and PCM and then go to "VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR " procedure.
