Repair Procedures: Removal

Engine removal is not required for this procedure.

NOTE:
  • Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
  • To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.

Information 

Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection.

  1. Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
  2. Remove the engine cover.

    (Refer to Engine and Transaxle Assembly - "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

  3. Remove the RH front wheel.

    (Refer to Suspension System - "WHEEL ")

  4. Remove the engine room under cover.

    (Refer to Engine and Transaxle Assembly - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  5. Remove the cylinder head cover.

    (Refer to Cylinder Head Assembly - "REMOVAL )

  6. Remove the drive belt.

    (Refer to Drive Belt System - "REPAIR PROCEDURES

  7. Remove the crankshaft damper pulley.

    (Refer to Drive Belt System - "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ")

  8. Remove the water pump.

    (Refer to Cooling System - "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ")

  9. Remove the A/C compressor.

    (Refer to Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning - "COMPRESSOR ")

  10. Drain engine oil and remove the oil pan.

    (Refer to Lubrication system - "REPAIR PROCEDURES )

  11. Remove the front engine hanger (A).

  12. Remove the idler.

    (Refer to Timing System - "REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION )

  13. Remove the alternator.

    (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "REMOVAL )

  14. Remove the engine mounting bracket.

    (Refer to Engine and Transaxle Assembly - "ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET )

  15. Remove the variable force solenoid (VFS) valve (A).

  16. Remove the timing chain cover (A) by gently prying the gaps between the cylinder head and cylinder block.

NOTE:
  • Be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of cylinder block, cylinder head and timing chain cover.
  • Do not disassemble the oil pump (A) from timing chain cover because it is supplied as timing chain cover & oil pump assembly.
