Repair Procedures: Replacement

  1. Loosen the wheel nuts slightly.

    Raise the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported.

  2. Remove the front wheel and tire (A) from front hub.

    Tightening torque: 

    88.3 ~ 107.9 N.m (9.0 ~ 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 ~ 79.6 lb-ft)

    CAUTION:
    • Be careful not to damage to the hub bolts when removing the rear wheel and tire (A).
  3. Disconnect the stabilizer link (B) from the front strut assembly (A) after loosening the nut.

    Tightening Torque: 

    98.1 ~ 117.7N.m(10.0 ~ 12.0kgf.m, 72.3~86.8lb-ft)

  4. Remove the split pin and nut and then disconnect the tie-rod end (A) from the front knuckle.

    Tightening Torque: 

    23.5 ~ 33.3N.m(2.4 ~ 3.4kgf.m, 17.4 ~ 24.6lb-ft)

  5. Loosen the bolt & nut and then remove the lower arm (A).

    Tightening Torque: 

    78.5 ~ 88.3N.m(8.0 ~ 9.0kgf.m, 57.9 ~ 65.1lb-ft)

  6. Loosen the bolt and then disconnect the universal joint assembly (A) from the pinion of the steering gear box.

    Tightening torque: 

    32.4 ~ 37.3N.m(3.3 ~ 3.8kgf.m, 23.9 ~ 27.5lb-ft)

    CAUTION:
    • Lock the steering wheel in the straight ahead position to prevent the damage of the clock spring inner cable when you handle the steering wheel.
    • Do not use the bolt again.
  7. Loosen the bolt & nut and then saperate the roll rod stopper (A).

    Tightening Torque: 

    107.9 ~127.5N.m(11.0 ~ 13.0kgf.m, 79.6 ~ 94.0lb-ft)

  8. Disconnect the muffler rubber hanger (A).

  9. Loosen the bolts & nuts and then remove the sub frame (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    Sub frame mounting bolt & nut

    156.9 ~ 176.5N.m(16.0 ~ 18.0kgf.m, 115.7 ~ 130.2lb-ft)

    Sub frame stay mounting bolt

    44.1 ~ 53.9N.m(4.5 ~ 5.5kgf.m, 32.5 ~ 39.8lb-ft)

  10. Loosen the bolts (A-2ea) and then remove the protector (B).

    Tightening Torque: 

    6.9 ~ 10.8 N.m(0.7 ~ 1.1 kgf.m, 5.1 ~ 8.0 lb-ft)

  11. Loosen the bolts (A-4ea) and then remove the steering gear box (B) from sub frame.

    Tightening Torque: 

    58.8 ~ 78.5 N.m (6.0 ~ 8.0 kgf.m, 43.4 ~ 57.9 lb-ft)

  12. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  13. Check the front alignment.

    (Refer to Suspension System - "FRONT ALIGNMENT ")

  14. When reinstalling gearbox after removal, MDPS ASP setting must be performed.

    (Refer to Electric Power Steering - "REPAIR PROCEDURES ")



  1. Remove the bolt and then detach the universal joint assembly (A) from the pinion of the steering gear box.

    Tightening torque : 

    32.4 ~ 37.3 N.m (3.3 ~ 3.8 kgf.m, 23.9 ~ 27.5 lb-ft)

    NOTE: Do not reuse the bolt.
  2. Remove the roll rod mounting bolt (A).

    NOTE: To prevent foreign matter from entering the gearbox, remove foreign matter.
  3. Detach the rubber hanger (A) from the front muffler

  4. Support the subframe with a jack (A).

  5. Remove the subframe mounting bolts and nuts.

    Tightening Torque : 

    Bolts (A) & Nuts (B) :

    44.1 ~ 53.9 N.m (4.5 ~ 5.5 kgf.m, 32.5 ~ 39.8 lb-ft)

    Bolts (C) & Nuts (D) :

    156.9 ~ 176.5 N.m (16.0 ~ 18.0 kgf.m, 115.7 ~ 130.2 lb-ft)

  6. Carefully lower the subframe enough 203 ~ 305 mm (8 ~ 12 in) to allow for removal of the steering gear box heat protector and partial detachment of the front stabilizer bar.
  7. Remove the bolts (A) and remove the steering gear box heat protector (B).

    Tightening Torque : 

    6.9 ~ 10.8 N.m (0.7 ~ 1.1 kgf.m, 5.1 ~ 8.0 lb-ft)

  8. Remove the mounting bolts (A) and nuts (B) and detach the stabilizer bar (C).

    Tightening Torque : 

    44.1 ~ 53.9 N.m (4.5 ~ 5.5 kgf.m, 32.5 ~ 39.8 lb-ft)

  9. Using the SST (0K565-A7100), remove the yoke plug (A).

  10. Remove the yoke spring (A).

  11. Clean the threads of the yoke housing with a clean cloth. Use compressed air to ensure clean and dry threads and yoke housing.

  12. Remove the support yoke (A).

  13. Apply grease to the bottom of the new support yoke (A).

    Specified Grease :ALVANIA 0854 

    Grease quantity : 1 ~ 3 g

  14. Install the new support yoke (A) into the yoke housing.

    NOTE: Be careful not to enter into the yoke housing the foreign matter.
  15. Install the yoke spring (A).

  16. Using the SST (0K565-A7100), install the yoke plug (A).

    Tightening Torque : 

    49.0 N.m (5.0 kgf.m, 36.2 lb.ft)

  17. With a marker, mark a line on the housing in line with groove (A) of the plug.

  18. Loosen the plug to align the mark on the housing with groove (A) of the plug.

  19. Install in the reverse order of removal.
