SERVICE INFORMATION
When servicing the automatic transaxle fluid level, the fluid level plug design is slightly different than the steel cover previously used. The material of the valve body covers have changed from Steel → Plastic (6-speed A/T). When removing the fluid level checking plug on the new plastic cover, an approximate 1/4 turn is all that is required to remove the plug. If you continue to unscrew the fluid level plug damage will occur to either the side cover or fluid checking plug.
All fluid level checking must be done with engine and transmission at operating temperature. Failure to do so may result in an over-fill condition. When the fluid level checking plug is removed, the fluid level should be even with fluid level drain plug hole.
If these directions are not followed damage to the side cover and fluid level checking plug may occur which is subject to charged back to your dealership.
The side covers are not interchangeable with previous design, so early and late design covers are available through your parts department.
Only SP- 4 ATF fluid should be used in this FWD or AWD transaxle, failure to use the proper fluid will cause contamination and transmission performance concerns.
