Repair procedures: Removal

CAUTION:
  • Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
  • To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
NOTE: Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid mis-connection.
  1. Disconnect the battery terminals (A) and ECM connector (B).

  2. Disconnect the breather hose (A) and then, remove the air cleaner assembly (B).

  3. Remove the ECM (Engine Control Module) (A) and the battery (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    9.8 ~ 11.8N.m (1.0 ~ 1.2kgf.m, 7.2 ~ 8.7lb-ft)

  4. Disconnect the throttle cable (A) and then, remove the battery tray (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    9.8 ~ 11.8N.m (1.0 ~ 1.2kgf.m, 7.2 ~ 8.7lb-ft)

  5. Loosen the drain plug (A), and drain the coolant.

    NOTE: Remove the radiator cap to speed draining.
  6. Recover the refrigerant and remove the high & low pressure pipe. (Refer to REFRIGERANT RECOVERY .)
  7. Remove the radiator upper hose (A) and lower hose (B).

  8. Disconnect the wiring connectors, harness clamps and hoses from the engine.
    1. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose (A).
    2. Disconnect the oxygen sensor connectors (B).
    3. Disconnect the condenser connector (C).
    4. Disconnect the ignition coil connector (D).
    5. Disconnect the ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) sensor connector.
    6. Disconnect the PCSV (Purge Control Solenoid Valve) connector and the PCSV hose.

    7. Disconnect the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) connector (A).
    8. Disconnect the ISA (Idle Speed Actuator) connector (B).
    9. Disconnect the CMP (Camshaft position sensor) connector (C).

    10. Disconnect the fuel hose (A) and the PCV hose (B).

    11. Disconnect the injector connectors (A).

    12. Disconnect the compressor connector (A), the alternator connector (B) and the 'B' terminal cable (C).

    13. Disconnect the OCV connector (A), the knock sensor connector (B) and the MAP sensor connector (C).

    14. Disconnect the starter connector (A) and the 'B' terminal cable (B).

  9. Remove the transaxle wire harness connectors and control cable from the transaxle. (Refer to MANUAL TRANSAXLE CONTROL SYSTEM - 1.6L .
  10. Remove the drive shafts. (Refer to DRIVESHAFT ASSEMBLY )
  11. Remove the stabilizer bar link. (Refer to FRONT SUSPENSION SYSTEM )
  12. Remove the rear roll stopper (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    Bolts (B):

    49.0 ~ 63.7N.m (5.0 ~ 6.5kgf.m, 36.1 ~ 47.0lb-ft)

    Bolt (C):

    88.3 ~ 107.9N.m (9.0 ~ 11.0kgf.m, 65.1 ~ 79.6lb-ft)

    NOTE: Mark the rear roll stopper direction for proper installation.
  13. Remove the front muffler (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    39.2 ~ 49.0N.m (4.0 ~ 5.0kgf.m, 28.9 ~ 36.2lb-ft)

  14. Using a floor jack, support the engine and transaxle assembly.
    WARNING:
    • After removing the mounting bolt (engine and transaxle), the engine and transaxle assembly may fall downward, and so support them securely with floor jack.
    • Verify that the hoses and connectors are disconnected before removing the engine and transaxle assembly.
  15. Disconnect the ground cable (A) and then, remove the engine mounting bracket (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    Nut (C):

    78.5 ~ 98.1 N.m (8.0 ~ 10.0 kgf.m, 57.9 ~ 72.3 lb-ft)

    Bolt (D) & Nuts (E):

    58.8 ~ 73.5 N.m (6.0 ~ 7.5 kgf.m, 43.4 ~ 54.2 lb-ft)

  16. Disconnect the ground cable (A) and then, remove the transaxle mounting bracket (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    Bolts (C):

    88.3 ~ 107.9N.m (9.0 ~ 11.0kgf.m, 65.1 ~ 79.6lb-ft)

  17. Remove the engine and transaxle assembly by lifting vehicle.

    CAUTION: When remove the engine and transaxle assembly, be careful not to damage any surrounding parts or body components.
