Component Inspection

Visual Check
1. IG KEY "OFF".
2. Check physical condition of CMPS.
3. Check the projection of cam-shaft visually after remove the CMPS.
4. Is everything OK?
  YES
  
  Go to "CMPS check " procedure.
  
  NO
  
  Repair as necessary , and then go to "VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR " procedure.

CMPS check
1. IG KEY "OFF". (Don't disconnect sensors.)
2. Select "vehicle scopemeter" in the menu, and connect channel A of scantool with signal terminal of CMPS harness connector.
3. Start engine, and check the signal waveforms.

4. Is the signal waveform within specifications?
  YES
  
  Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness(es) and terminals. Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage. Check for poor connections, and check the related circuit between ECM and component thoroughly. Repair as necessary and go to "VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR " procedure.
  
  NO
  
  Substitute with a known-good CMPS and check for proper operation. If the problem is corrected, replace CMPS and then go to "VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR " procedure.
