Automatic Transaxle: Removal

CAUTION:
  • Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
  • To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
NOTE:
  • Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid mis-connection.
  1. Remove the battery (A).

  2. Remove the battery (A) and battery tray (B).

  3. Remove the air cleaner and air intake hose.
    1. Disconnect the air flow sensor connector (A) and breather hose (B).

    2. Remove the air cleaner upper cover (A) and air intake hose (B).

    3. Remove the air cleaner lower (A). (Bolt: 3EA).

  4. Disconnect the ground cable (A) from the transaxle.

  5. Remove the power steering eye bolt (A).

  6. Disconnect the power steering return hose (A).

  7. Disconnect the solenoid valve (A).

  8. Disconnect the transaxle range switch (B).
  9. Disconnect the input shaft speed sensor connector (C).
  10. Remove the manual control cable (A) from the manual control lever.

  11. Disconnect the output shaft speed sensor connector (A).

  12. Remove the crank shaft position sensor (A).

  13. Remove the oil cooler hose (A).

  14. Remove the starter motor mounting bolt (A). (Bolt: 2EA)

  15. Remove the steering U-joint mounting bolt (A).

  16. Install the special tools (09200-38001), the engine support fixture and the adapter, on the engine assembly.

  17. Remove the transaxle mounting insulator bolt (A).

    TORQUE: Bolt (A): 90-110 N.m (900-1100 kgf.cm, 65-80 lb-ft)

  18. Remove the transaxle upper mounting bolt (A). (Bolt: 2EA)

  19. Lift the vehicle.
  20. Remove the front tires.
  21. Loosen the drain plug (A) and then drain the transaxle oil.

  22. Separate the tie rod end (A) from the pin (B) and nut (C).

  23. Loosen the stabilizer control link nut (A).

    TORQUE: 44-62 N.m (440-620 kgf.cm, 32-45 lb-ft)

  24. Loosen the lower arm nut (A).

    TORQUE: 60-72 N.m (600-720 kgf.cm, 43-52 lb-ft)

  25. Remove the front muffler (A).

  26. Remove the front roll stopper insulator bolt and nut (A).

    TORQUE: 90-110 N.m (900-1000 kgf.cm, 65-80 lb-ft)

  27. Remove the rear roll stopper insulator bolt and nut (A).

    TORQUE: 65-80 N.m (650-800 kgf.cm, 47-58 lb-ft)

  28. Remove the sub frame bolt and nut.

    TORQUE: Bolt (A): 40-55 N.m (400-550 kgf.cm, 29-40 lb-ft)

    Nut (B), Bolt (C): 160-180 N.m (1600-1800 kgf.cm, 116-130 lb-ft)

  29. Remove the sub frame.

  30. Install the jack for supporting transaxle.
    NOTE:
    • After removing the sub frame mounting bolts, the transaxle assembly may fall downward, and so support them securely with floor jack.
    • Verify that the hoses and connectors are disconnected before removing the transaxle assembly.
    • When supporting the transaxle assembly, make sure that the weight is applied to a wide area of the jack surface.
  31. Remove the bell housing cover (A).

  32. Remove the torque converter mounting bolt (A). (6EA)

  33. Remove the transaxle lower mounting bolt.
  34. Remove the transaxle assembly by lifting vehicle.
    CAUTION: When removing the transaxle assembly, be careful not to damage any surrounding parts or body components.
