INTAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT

TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

Reference Number(s): 014, Date of Issue:  April 2009
KIA: Sedona VQ
GROUP: Climate Control

Service Information

This bulletin addresses some Sedona (VQ) model vehicles with a production date earlier than December 31st, 2006 that may experience a "clicking" noise originating from inside of the front passenger's side dash area after turning the ignition key off. The air intake actuator on the HVAC blower assembly should be replaced for this concern. Note that the time allowed to replace the actuator has changed.

  4. While looking through the small opening to the left of the fresh air filter cover reach under the dash, disconnect the electrical connection and remove the three screws holding the inlet actuator to the left side of the blower housing.

A short shank Phillips screwdriver or Phillips screwdriver bit installed in a bit driver will make this job easier.

  5. When reinstalling the actuator, be very careful to insert the two actuator drive pins properly.
    1. The upper white colored lever operates the flap for outside (fresh air).

The lower grey colored lever operates the flap for inside (re-circulated air).

Back of actuator is shown at right.

    3. When in the "fresh" outside air mode, the lower grey colored lever should be fully down and the upper white colored lever should be fully up.

Install the actuator onto the levers carefully!

  6. Once the actuator is fully installed and wiring reconnected, operate the actuator while watching to see if both levers operate correctly. With re-circulated air, grey lever moves up and white lever moves down. With fresh air, grey lever moves down and white lever moves up.
  7. Reinstall the glove box door in reverse order of disassembly.
