Fuel Tank: Removal

WARNING:
  1. When removing the fuel tank, keep sparks, cigarettes, and open flames away from it.
  2. Before replacing the fuel tank, clean it thoroughly with steam to remove all gasoline.
  3. Drain the fuel from the fuel tank before removing the tank.
  1. Release fuel system pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE .
  2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal from the battery.
  3. Drain the fuel from the fuel tank.
  4. Remove seat mounting bolts. See Figure.
  5. Remove the rear seat .
  6. Remove the service cover under center floor carpet. See Figure.
  7. Disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector, the EVAP. hose, the main and return hose. See Figure.
    WARNING: When disconnecting fuel hose quick connectors, use shop towels to absorb fuel, protecting equipment and personnel.
  8. Disconnect the breather hose.
  9. Disconnect the joint hose.
  10. Unfasten the fuel tank-fixing bolts.
  11. Remove the fuel tank.
