Steering Rack Boot: Removal
- Lift front of vehicle and support it with safety stands.
- Remove wheel and tire.
- Remove plastic undercover.
- Turn wheels fully.
- Pull out cotter pin, and remove nut.
- Remove tie rod from knuckle arm with SST (0K130 283 021). NOTE: Replace nut temporarily so screw thread does not become damaged.
- Mark alignment of tie rod, jam nut and tie rod end as shown.
- Loosen tie rod jam nut, and then remove tie rod.
- Secure tie rod end in a vise.
- Place a chisel against dust boot, holding it at angle shown.
- Carefully remove tie rod boot, working around boot.NOTE: Do not scar area where the tie rod seals to the dust boot.
- Loosen steering rack boot retaining clip.
- Remove tie rod jam nut.
- Remove steering rack boot.
- Remove boot clip.
