Tripod Joint: Assembly

NOTE: Check direction of sensor rotor.
  1. Assemble a new sensor rotor to driveshaft by using suitable tool.
    NOTE: Boot on wheel side of driveshaft is different from boot on differential side of driveshaft.

  2. Cover splines of transaxle end with tape.
  3. Install inner dust boot.

    NOTE:
    1. Always use new bands.
    2. Bands should be installed so that their pointed ends initially point in forward direction of rotation.
  4. Install dynamic damper and band.
  5. Fold band back by pulling on end with pliers.
  6. Lock end of band by bending its locking clip.

  7. Install outer boot.
    NOTE: Do not  damage bearing.
  8. Align marks and carefully install tripod joint with a drift and a hammer.
  9. Install snap ring with snap ring pliers.

  10. Apply grease included in rebuild kit to the tripod joint, outer ring and boot.
  11. Install outer ring.
  12. If outer boot was removed, fill it with correct quantity of specified grease.

    Transaxle end: 4.94 oz. (140 g) 

    Wheel end: 4.58 oz. (130 g)

    NOTE:
    1. Be sure boots are not damaged.
    2. Carefully lift up small end of boots to release any trapped air.

  13. Measure length of driveshaft.

  14. Install boot retention bands.
  15. Fold bands back and pull on ends with pliers to tighten.
  16. Lock ends of bands by bending locking clips.
