Main Moving System: Crankshaft: Installation
- Install the grooved main bearing (upper bearing) on the cylinder block side.
- Install the grooveless main bearing (lower bearing) on the main bearing cap side.
- Install the crankshaft. Apply engine oil to the journal and pin.
- Caps should be installed with the arrow mark directed toward the front of the engine. The cap number sequence must be correct.
- Tighten all cap bolts to the specified torque and then rotate all bolts to specified angle.
Tightening torque
Main bearing cap bolts :
M8:14-18 Nm (140-180 kg.cm, 10-13 lb.ft) + (90°~94°) M10: 27-33 Nm (270-330 kg.cm, 19.5-23.9 lb.ft)+(90°~94°)
- Cap bolts should be tightened evenly in from 4 to 5 stages before they are tightened to the specified torque.
- Make certain that the crankshaft turns freely and has the proper end play.
Crankshaft end play
Standard : 0.070-0.250 mm (0.0028-0.0098 in.)
Limit : 0.35 mm (0.014 in.)
- Using the special tool (09231-33000), install the rear oil seal in the oil seal case.
- Apply sealant to the area shown in the illustration. Install the oil seal case on the cylinder block.
