Description & Operation

Generator is a 70-amp, conventional 3-phase, self-rectifying type with an internal solid state voltage regulator. Battery, battery cables, charge indicator light, wiring and drive belt complete the charging system.

Battery voltage is applied at all times to the "B" terminal of the generator. With ignition in the ON position, battery voltage is applied to the charge indicator light and to the "L" terminal. See Fig 1 . With engine running, the generator produces an alternating current that flows through a series of rectifying diodes, converting it to direct current. Direct current is controlled by the voltage regulator to keep the battery charged. If the voltage regulator senses the alternator is not producing sufficient output, it grounds the "L" terminal, illuminating the charge indicator light.

NOTE: The terms generator and alternator are interchangeable. Either may be found within illustrations.
