Bleeding Procedure
WARNING:
Brake fluid system is maintained under pressure. Caution should be taken when bleeding brakes. Brake fluid will damage painted surfaces. If brake fluid contacts a painted surface, rinse with water immediately. If brake fluid contacts eyes, flush with running water for several minutes. Get medical attention if irritation persists. If taken internally, drink water and induce vomiting. Get medical attention immediately.
NOTE:
For bleeding ABS system master cylinder or HCU, a special system Harness Adapter (OTC-3225) must be used. Remaining brake system can be bled in a conventional manner either manually or with pressure.
- To bleed master cylinder and/or HCU, disconnect 55-pin harness connector from ABS control unit located under passengers seat. Install anti-lock brake system adapter (OTC-3225) to harness connector.
- Place bleed/harness switch in BLEED position. Ensure Red OFF indicator is illuminated. Turn ignition on.
- Push START button on adapter. This will start operation of pump motor for 60 seconds. Red OFF indicator light should turn off and Green ON indicator should illuminate.
- After 20 seconds have passed, push and hold VALVES button for 20 seconds. Green ON indicator will remain on. This will bleed any air trapped in master cylinder or HCU. Pump operation will continue for 20 seconds after VALVES button is released.
- Sixty seconds after START button is pushed, Green ON indicator light should go off and Red OFF indicator should now illuminate. After Red OFF indicator illuminates turn ignition off. Disconnect harness adapter, then reconnect it to ABS control unit.
- Bleed brakes in conventional manner. For bleeding order see BRAKE LINE BLEEDING SEQUENCE table. Ensure all air is removed from brake system. Refill master cylinder reservoir after bleeding procedure is complete.
