Component Testing: Tachometer

  1. Locate wire that runs from ignition coil connector to tachometer of instrument cluster Yellow/White wire. Using an ohmmeter, check for an open or short, repair wire as necessary. If okay, and tachometer is inoperative, replace tachometer. To verify tachometer is accurate, go to next step.
  2. Connect test tachometer to ignition coil. Start engine. Compare vehicle tachometer reading with test tachometer reading. Vehicle tachometer performance is acceptable if specification is within allowable range. See TACHOMETER VARIATION SPECIFICATIONS  . If tachometer performance is not within specifications, replace tachometer.
