Test J: DTC 2-2-3-4: Test

  1. Load test battery and ensure it is in good condition. Replace if necessary. Start engine and test charging system. If charging voltage is less than 9.5V or greater than 16V, charging system is not operating as designed. See TESTS W/CODES article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Repair as necessary. If charging system is operating as designed, turn engine off. Go to next step.
  2. Disconnect ABS control unit harness connector. Using a jumper wire, temporarily jump ABS control unit connector terminal No. 34 (Red/Blue wire) to ground. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ABS control unit connector terminals No. 1 (Black) and 33 (White). Turn ignition off. If voltage reading is 9.5-16 volts, go to step 7). If reading is not as specified, check for high resistance in wiring between ABS fuse, located in passenger compartment, and ABS control unit or check for low resistance to ground in that wiring. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  3. Remove ABS main relay. See Figure and Figure . Check resistance of relay terminals No. 4 (Black/White wire) and 6 (Red/Blue wire). Resistance reading should be 80-100 ohms. If reading is not as specified, replace relay. If reading is as specified, go to next step.
  4. Using jumper wires connected to battery voltage and negative battery terminals, apply voltage across relay terminals No. 4 and 6. Measure resistance between relay terminals No. 2 (Black/White wire) and 8 (Black/Red wire). Resistance reading should be less than one ohm. If reading is not as specified, replace relay. If reading is as specified, go to next step.
  5. Remove ABS 30-amp fuse, locate in passengers fuse panel. Check fuse for an open. Replace fuse as necessary. Check ABS 40-amp fuse, located in engine compartment on left fender well. Check fuse for an open, replace as necessary.
  6. Remove ABS fuses, located in passenger compartment and engine compartment fuse panels, ABS main relay, ABS pump motor relay and disconnect ABS control unit. Check resistance from ABS main relay terminal No. 8 (Black/Red wire) to ABS fuse terminal, located in passenger compartment. Check resistance from ABS main relay terminal No. 2 (Black/White wire) to HCU connector terminal No. 7 (Blue/White wire), ABS control unit connector terminal No. 33 (White wire) and ABS pump motor relay terminal No. 6 (Red/White wire) of 9-pin connector. Resistance reading should be less than one ohm. If readings are not as specified, repair or replace wiring as necessary. If readings are as specified, connect all disconnected components and go to next step.
  7. Disconnect HCU connector. Measure resistance from HCU terminal No. 7 (Blue wire) to HCU housing. If resistance reading is greater than 10 megohms, replace HCU. If reading is as specified, go to next step.
  8. Reconnect all connectors. Erase diagnostic trouble codes. See ERASING CODES under RETRIEVING CODES  . If diagnostic trouble code 2-2-3-4 is still present, replace ABS control unit and repeat TEST J. If trouble code is intermittent, see TROUBLE SHOOTING  .
