Code 08: Mass Airflow (MAF) Sensor

  1. Check MAF sensor connector for poor connection. Clean or repair connector as necessary. If connector is okay, go to next step.
  2. Check if Code 10 is also present. If Code 10 is not present, go to next step. If Code 10 is present, locate and repair open Black/Red wire between ground and MAF sensor connector.
  3. Check MAF sensor resistance. See MASS AIRFLOW (MAF) SENSOR RESISTANCE  . If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace MAF sensor.
    MASS AIRFLOW (MAF) SENSOR RESISTANCE

    Measure Between Terminals Resistance
    No. 2 (RED/YEL) & No. 5 (BLK/RED)
    MAF Closed 200-600
    MAF Open 20-1200
    No. 4 (LT GRN/YEL) & No. 5 (BLK/RED) 200-400
  4. Check continuity of Light Green/Red wire between terminals No. 6 of ECM C249 (26-pin) connector and No. 4 of MAF sensor connector. Also, check continuity of Red/Yellow wire between terminals No. 8 of ECM C249 (26-pin) connector and No. 2 of MAF sensor connector. If continuity exists in both readings, go to next step. If continuity does not exist in one or both readings, locate and repair open in Light Green/Red wire and/or Red/Yellow wire between ECM connector and MAF sensor connector.
  5. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage at terminals of ECM C249 (26-pin) connector as specified. See TESTING MASS AIRFLOW (MAF) SENSOR CIRCUITS  . If voltage readings are as specified, replace ECM. If any voltage reading is not as specified, locate and repair short in appropriate wire between ECM connector and MAF sensor connector.
TESTING MASS AIRFLOW (MAF) SENSOR CIRCUITS
