Steering Wheel: Notes
REMOVAL
WARNING:
Before servicing the steering column the airbag system must be disarmed. Failure to do so may result in accidental deployment of the airbag and possible personal injury.
WARNING:
When an undeployed airbag module is to be removed from the vehicle, first disconnect the battery ground cable and isolate it. Allow the system capacitor to discharge for a minimum of two minutes before starting any removal.
NOTE:
Do not disconnect the Hands On Module (HOM) wire harness connector, if equipped. The steering wheel and HOM must be serviced as one component.
- Remove the Driver Air Bag (DAB). Refer to AIR BAG, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Disconnect the steering wheel wire harness connectors.
1 - Steering Wheel Nut 2 - Wire Harness Connector 3 - Wire Harness Connector - Remove and DISCARD the steering wheel nut.
- Remove the steering wheel.
- Remove the Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) switches. Refer to SWITCH, EVIC CONTROL, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the remote radio switches. Refer to SWITCH, REMOTE RADIO, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
INSTALLATION
Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle.
NOTE:
Install a NEW steering wheel nut.
