Removal And Installation: Clevis: Notes
REMOVAL
- If equipped with air suspension, disable the air suspension system. Refer to DISABLING AND ENABLING AIR SUSPENSION .
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable(s). Refer to 2.0L, 12 VOLT BATTERY DISCONNECT or 3.6L, BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to TIRES AND WHEELS, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Disconnect the stabilizer bar link from the clevis bracket. Refer to LINK, STABILIZER BAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the front brake hose bracket bolt.
1 - Front Brake Hose Bracket Bolt - Disconnect the active damping sensor wire harness connector.
1 - Active Damper Sensor Bolt 2 - Wire Harness Connector - Remove the wheel speed sensor bolt.
1 - Wire Harness Connector 2 - Wheel Speed Sensor Bolt - Remove the wheel speed sensor from the steering knuckle.
- On 4X4 models, have a helper apply brake pressure, then remove and DISCARD
the halfshaft hub and bearing nut.
1 - Halfshaft Hub and Bearing Nut - Disconnect the upper control arm from the steering knuckle. Refer to ARM, UPPER CONTROL, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Hold the nut and remove the clevis pinch bolt.CAUTION:
DO NOT attempt to rotate the clevis bracket pinch nut. The clevis bracket pinch nut is pressed in the clevis bracket and damage will occur if the nut is rotated.
1 - Clevis Pinch Bolt 2 - Clevis Lower Bolt - Hold the clevis lower nut and remove the clevis lower bolt.CAUTION:
DO NOT attempt to rotate the clevis lower nut. The clevis lower nut is pressed in the clevis bracket and damage will occur if the nut is rotated.
- Disengage the clevis from the shock absorber.
- Remove the clevis.
INSTALLATION
Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle. The steps listed below are calling out specific procedures that should be followed during installation.
DO NOT attempt to rotate the clevis lower nut. The clevis lower nut is pressed in the clevis bracket and damage will occur if the nut is rotated.
DO NOT attempt to rotate the clevis bracket pinch nut. The clevis bracket pinch nut is pressed in the clevis bracket and damage will occur if the nut is rotated.
- Hold the nut while tightening the clevis lower bolt.
- Hold the nut while tightening the clevis pinch bolt.
