Enabling/Set Conditions And Possible Causes - Vacuum Pump

Faults Monitoring Conditions Set Conditions Possible Causes
P258B
  1. With the engine running.
  2. Minimum MAP reading is 15 kPa (4.4 in hg).
  3. Electric Vacuum Pump (EVP) is commanded on.
  1. The EVP is operating and the system is not able to increase vacuum at the rate of 1% per second between the thresholds of 69% and 73% of BARO. The system must accumulate 5 fail attempts to set a fault. These fail attempts can be decremented over time by meeting normal operational requirements.
  2. The EVP is operating and the system is not able to increase vacuum at the rate of 1% per second when vacuum is under the 69% BARO threshold. A single failed attempt under 69% BARO will result in the P258B DTC.
  1. Vacuum hose assembly leaking or faulty check valve.
  2. Brake booster internal leakage.
  3. Faulty vacuum pressure sensor.
  4. Loss of battery voltage or ground to the EVP.
  5. Weak or faulty electric vacuum pump.
