Diagnostic Test

  1. READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR DTC TO RETURN 
    1. With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
    2. For future reference, with the scan tool, run and save a vehicle Scan Report and all related recorded data.
    3. With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
    4. Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
    5. Turn the ignition on.
    6. Using the When Monitored and Set Conditions above and recorded data, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    7. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

  2. INSPECT THE WIRING HARNESS AND CONNECTORS BETWEEN THE SPEED CONTROL SWITCH AND STEERING COLUMN CONTROL MODULE (SCCM) 
    WARNING:

    Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    WARNING:

    Do not place an intact non-deployed airbag face down on a hard surface, the airbag propels into the air if accidentally deployed. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Visually inspect the wiring harness between the Speed Control Switch harness connector and the SCCM harness connector for physical damage. Check for damaged wires, connectors, and open/spread terminals.

      Were any issues found with the harness or connectors?

      Yes 

      • Repair the damage to the wiring harness or connector in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK THE SPEED CONTROL SWITCH FOR PROPER OPERATION 
    1. Replace the Speed Control Switch in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to SWITCH, SPEED CONTROL, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
    2. Turn the ignition on.
    3. Move the Speed Control Switch to each position several times.
    4. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Does the scan tool display this DTC as active?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Replacing the Speed Control Switch repaired the fault. Test Complete.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
