Power Outlets - 12V

POWER OUTLETS - 12V

The Power Outlet(s) is the customer convenience device(s) in a vehicle. This device(s) is supplied by the 12 volt vehicle system. It supplies a 12 Volt DC power output. Customers can use this outlet to run small electronic devices or use for a cigarette lighter plug.

The power outlet base or receptacle shell is connected to ground, and an insulated contact in the bottom of the shell is connected to battery.

There are two modes of operation to the power outlet:

Direct Battery 12V Power Outlet

The Power Outlet provides power as long as the battery provides the power to the vehicle electrical system. The Power Outlet provides 12V DC power and allow the customer to easily plug in typical 12 volt automotive outlet accessories. The Power Outlet can provide at least 15 amps of continuous current.

Switched 12V Power Outlet

The Switched Power Outlet provides power when the vehicle is operating in the Power Accessory Delay, Accessory, Run, Auto Stop/Start, and Remote Start modes.

The operation can be changed by the customer, to change the mode when the outlet provides 12 volt DC supply. By changing location of the dedicated fuse in the Power Distribution Center, the customer can select the mode of operation: Direct Battery or Switched Battery. The detail instruction are included in the Owner's Manual.

Illumination for the power outlets is received from an activated panel lamps driver within the IPC. The panel lamps driver is managed by the BCM.
