Transmission Oil Drain And Fill: Notes

WARNING:

There is a risk of accident from vehicle moving when the engine is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving. There is a risk of injury from contusions and burns if you insert your hands into the engine when it is running. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. Wear properly fitted work clothes.

CAUTION:

A unique transmission fluid has been developed for this transmission. This fluid is NOT compatible with ATF+4 or any other current FCA US LLC transmission fluid. For specifics about this unique fluid see FLUIDS, LUBRICANTS AND GENUINE PARTS.

DRAIN 

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Position a drain pan below the transmission.

    1 - Transmission Oil Fill Plug
    2 - Transmission Oil Fill Plug O-ring
    3 - Transmission Oil Level Check Plug
    4 - Transmission Oil Check Plug O-ring
    5 - Transmission Oil Drain Plug O-ring
    6 - Transmission Oil Drain Plug Gasket
  3. Remove the transmission oil fill plug.
  4. Remove the transmission oil drain plug and DISCARD  the transmission oil drain plug gasket.
  5. Install a NEW  transmission oil drain plug gasket.
  6. Install the transmission oil drain plug.

FILL 

  1. Add 8.0 L (8.55 qts) of the appropriate transmission oil through the transmission oil fill plug.
  2. Connect the scan tool to the vehicle.
  3. Start the engine with the vehicle in Park.
  4. Use the scan tool to monitor the transmission oil temperature allow the transmission oil temperature is between 50 - 60° C (122 - 140° F).
  5. Shift the transmission slowly from Park to Drive and back to Park two times, pausing in each position for at least 2 seconds.
  6. Remove the transmission oil level check plug.
  7. Insert the (special tool #2083000210, Dipstick, Transmission 8F30) fully into the opening.

  8. Carefully withdraw the dipstick and record the oil level reading. Compare the recorded reading to the chart. When the transmission oil temperature is 55° C (131° F), the proper transmission oil level is between 42.0 and 48.0 mm on the dipstick.
  9. Adjust the transmission oil level by adding or removing oil until the proper level is achieved.
  10. Install the transmission oil level check plug.
  11. Install the transmission oil fill plug.
