2.0L Cooling System: Engine: Thermostat: Removal

CAUTION:

The Thermostat and housing is serviced as an assembly. Do not remove the thermostat from the housing. Damage to the thermostat may occur.

CAUTION:

To prevent coolant pooling in the injector bore(s), place an absorbent towel in the valley and over the injector bores. If coolant is accidentally spilled over top of the engine, apply compressed air into each injector bore until all coolant is visually evacuated.

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the engine cover. Refer to COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL .
  3. Drain the cooling system. Refer to COOLING/STANDARD PROCEDURE .

  4. Remove the upper radiator hose (1) from the thermostat housing (2).
  5. Remove the coolant hose (3) from the thermostat housing (2).

  6. Remove the screws (2) and the thermostat housing (1).

  7. Remove and discard the thermostat housing gasket (1).
