Intermediate Shaft: Notes
REMOVAL
- Secure the steering wheel with the tires in the straight ahead position
.NOTE:
Some vehicles may not be equipped with an internal locking shaft that allows the ignition key cylinder to be locked with the key. Alternative methods of locking the steering wheel for service will have to be used.
CAUTION:Steering column module is centered to the vehicles steering system. Failure to keep the system and steering column module centered and locked/inhibited from rotating can result in steering column module damage.
- Remove the pressurized coolant bottle and bracket as an assembly and position it aside. Refer to 2.0L, BOTTLE, PRESSURIZED COOLANT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
or 2.0L, HYBRID, BOTTLE, PRESSURIZED COOLANT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
or 3.0L, BOTTLE, PRESSURIZED COOLANT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
or 3.6L, BOTTLE, PRESSURIZED COOLANT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
or 6.4L, BOTTLE, PRESSURIZED COOLANT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

1 - Intermediate Shaft Coupler Upper Pinch Bolt 2 - Intermediate Shaft Coupler Lower Pinch Bolt - Remove and DISCARD the intermediate shaft coupler lower pinch bolt from the steering gear end of the shaft.
- Slide the intermediate shaft coupler off of the steering gear.
- Remove and DISCARD the intermediate shaft coupler upper pinch bolt from the steering column end of the shaft.
- Slide the intermediate shaft coupler off of the steering column.
- Remove the intermediate shaft.
INSTALLATION
During installation, torque the fasteners to the specifications in the torque table(s) below.
Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle. The steps listed below are calling out specific procedures that should be followed during installation.
- Install a NEW intermediate shaft coupler lower pinch bolt.
- Install a NEW intermediate shaft coupler upper pinch bolt.
