Steering Wheel: Notes
REMOVAL
Before servicing the steering column the airbag system must be disarmed. Failure to do so may result in accidental deployment of the airbag and possible personal injury.
When an undeployed airbag module is to be removed from the vehicle, first disconnect the battery ground cable and isolate it. Allow the system capacitor to discharge for a minimum of two minutes before starting any removal.
Do not disconnect the Hands On Module (HOM) wire harness connector, if equipped. The steering wheel and HOM must be serviced as one component.
- Remove the Driver Air Bag (DAB). Refer to AIR BAG, DRIVER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

1 - Steering Wheel Nut 2 - Wire Harness Connector 3 - Wire Harness Connector - Disconnect the steering wheel wire harness connectors.
- Remove and DISCARD the steering wheel nut.
- Remove the steering wheel.
- Remove the Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) switches. Refer to SWITCH, EVIC CONTROL, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the remote radio switches. Refer to SWITCH, REMOTE RADIO, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
INSTALLATION
During installation, torque the fasteners to the specifications in the torque table(s) below.
Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle.
Install a NEW steering wheel nut.
