Cable, Shift: Installation
- Position the shifter cable (2) into the vehicle.NOTE:
Exhaust and heat shield are removed for clarity.
- Push the shifter cable (1) up through the floor pan.
- Attach the shifter cable to the clip (1) attached to the steering gear.
- Attach the shifter cable grommet (2) to the floor pan.
- Attach the shifter cable to the support bracket (1).
- Position the heat shield (1) in place and install the heat shield fasteners (2).
- Attach the front sway bar links to the sway bar and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to FRONT, TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Attach the shifter cable (1) in the shifter cable bracket (3) on the transmission and engage the lock (2).
- Attach the shifter cable end (1) to the manual lever (2).NOTE:
Make sure the transmission is in Park by rotating the manual lever to its forward most position.
- Install the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) bracket to the battery tray.
- Install the PCM. Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL (PCM), INSTALLATION
.
- Attach the shifter cable (4) to the shifter bracket (1) on the steering column and engage the lock (3).
- With shifter in the Park position, attach the shifter cable end (1) to the shifter (2).
- If necessary, adjust the shifter cable. Refer to CABLE, SHIFT, ADJUSTMENTS .
- Place the shifter in the Neutral position by manually releasing the Brake Ignition Transmission Shifter Interlock (BITSI). Refer to SHIFT, BRAKE INTERLOCK, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Insert the shifter bezel through the console bezel (2).
- If equipped, connect the mode switch wire harness connector (4).
- Connect the park brake wire harness connector (3).
- Install the console bezel (2) to the console.
- Install the shifter bezel (1) to the console bezel.
- Install the console front trim (3).
- Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector to the negative battery cable.
