Pump, Water: Removal: 3.2L
The water pump on 3.2L engines is bolted directly to the engine timing chain case cover.
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.WARNING:
Constant tension hose clamps are used on most cooling system hoses. When removing or installing, use only tools designed for servicing this type of clamp. Always wear safety glasses when servicing constant tension clamps.
CAUTION:A number or letter is stamped into the tongue of constant tension clamps. If replacement is necessary, use only an original equipment clamp with matching number or letter.
- Support the engine with an engine support fixture.
- Remove the air cleaner body. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL .
- Remove the clean air hose from the intake resonator.
- Remove the pressurized coolant bottle. Refer to BOTTLE, PRESSURIZED COOLANT, REMOVAL .
- Remove the right engine mount. Refer to INSULATOR, ENGINE MOUNT, REAR, REMOVAL
.
- Using care, raise the engine to gain access to the right side engine mount bracket (1).
- Remove the bolts (2, 3) that secure the bracket (1) to the timing cover and cylinder head.
- Remove the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, REMOVAL .
- Drain coolant into clean container for reuse. Refer to DRAINING .
- Remove the right wheel housing splash shield. Refer to SHIELD, SPLASH, REAR WHEELHOUSE, REMOVAL
.
- Remove the serpentine belt (3). Refer to BELT, SERPENTINE, REMOVAL .
- Remove the bolt (2) upper idler pulley (1).
- Remove the lower heater hose and the lower radiator hose from the water pump and position aside.CAUTION:
Do not pry on the water pump at the timing chain case/cover. The machined surfaces may be damaged resulting in leaks.
- Remove the remaining water pump mounting bolts (1, 2, 4). Take notice to the four water pump bolts (3) that mount directly to the timing chain cover.
- Remove the water pump and discard the seal.
