The vehicle is equipped with six airbags as standard which make it one of the cars with the best standard equipment of its class. It is also equipped with advanced restraint systems on the seat belts which guarantee optimal protection of the occupants in the event of an accident.

The ORC system can be equipped with:

Number of charges  Driver airbag  Passenger airbag  Driver's knee airbag  Sidebags  Curtain airbag  Front pretensioners  Rear pretensioners
EMEA version 1 1 1 (opt) 2 2 2 2
NAFTA version 2 3 1 2 2 2 -
Number of sensors / switches  ECS  Side impact sensors  Side impact pressure sensors  Front seat buckle switches  Passenger presence sensor  Seat guide position sensor  Rear seat buckle switches
NAFTA version 2 2 2 2 1 2 -
EMEA version 1 2 2 2 1 - 3

The ORC and the IPC each contain a microcontroller and programming that allow them to communicate with each other using the Controller Area Network (CAN) data bus. This method of communication is used by the ORC for control of the airbag indicator in the IPC. Refer to COMMUNICATION, DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .

Hardwired circuitry connects the SRS components to each other through the electrical system of the vehicle. These hardwired circuits are integral to several wire harnesses, which are routed throughout the vehicle and retained by many different methods. These circuits may be connected to each other, to the vehicle electrical system, and to the SRS components through the use of a combination of soldered splices, splice block connectors, and many different types of wire harness terminal connectors and insulators. Refer to the appropriate wiring information. The wiring information includes wiring diagrams, details of wire harness routing and retention, connector pin-out information and location views for the various wire harness connectors, splices and grounds. For proper wire repair, and connector repair procedures. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE and REMOVAL or INSTALLATION .
