Functional Description - Transmission Speed Sensor

DESCRIPTION 

CAUTION:

The Transmission Control Module (TCM), or Transmission Control Module Assembly (TCMA) is extremely sensitive to Electrostatic Discharge (ESD). Always use a ground strap and follow the ESD guidelines in ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE (ESD) SENSITIVE DEVICES. Failure to follow these instructions may result in damage to the TCM/TCMA.

The Input Speed Sensor (ISS) and the Output Speed Sensor (OSS) are integrated components of the Transmission Control Module (TCMA) and not serviced individually.

1 - Input Speed Sensor (ISS)
2 - Transmission Control Module (TCM) (Includes Transmission Temperature Sensor)
3 - External Wire Harness Connector
4 - Output Speed Sensor (OSS)
5 - Park Position Sensor

OPERATION 

The ISS and OSS are Hall-effect sensors that measure shaft rotational speed. The ISS is located at the front of the TCMA and reads input shaft speed from the magnetic ring on the P2 carrier.

The OSS is located at the back of the TCMA and reads output shaft speed from the P4 carrier.
