Removal And Installation: AWD: Removal

- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
- Remove and DISCARD
the steering shaft to steering gear pinch fastener (1).
Do not start to remove (or break free) the pinch fastener with an impact wrench/gun.
- Remove the dash seal to dash panel fasteners (2).
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Remove the front tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the drive shaft. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

- Remove the exhaust hanger (1).
- Remove the exhaust pipe clamp (2) and disengage the exhaust pipe.
- Remove the tie rods from the steering knuckles. Refer to TIE ROD, STEERING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the steering gear crossmember. Refer to
CROSSMEMBER, STEERING GEAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
.NOTE:
DO NOT disconnect the torque sensor (grey) harness connector and make sure it is connected properly.
- Remove the heat shield to steering gear mounting fasteners (1, 2) and remove the heat shields.
- Support the transmission (2) with a suitable stand (1).
- Support the steering gear with a suitable strap and remove the steering gear bolts (1).
- Remove the steering gear crossmember. Refer to
CROSSMEMBER, STEERING GEAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

- Disconnect the Electric Power Steering (EPS) wire harness connectors (1, 2).
- Remove both stabilizer bar links and use a suitable strap to tie down the stabilizer bar to the control arm. Refer to LINK, STABILIZER BAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
.
- Remove the bracket fasteners (1) and remove the bracket.
- Remove the dash seal to steering gear fasteners (1), and remove the dash seal.
- Remove the steering gear.
- Remove the heat shield.
