Diagnostic Test

  1. READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR DTC TO RETURN 
    1. With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
      NOTE:

      A front door must remain open whenever checking or erasing Global Telematics Box Module (TBM2) DTCs.

    2. With the scan tool, run a vehicle Scan Report, or record the Environmental Data related to the DTCs.
    3. With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
    4. Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
    5. Turn the ignition on.
    6. Using the recorded Environmental Data and the When Monitored Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    7. With the scan tool, read TBM2 DTCs.
    NOTE:

    A front door must remain open whenever checking or erasing Global Telematics Box Module (TBM2) DTCs.

    Did the DTC return?

    Yes 

    • Go To  2

    No 

  2. CHECK THE (D8) GPS ANTENNA CONNECTION 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Antenna connector at the back of the TBM2.
    3. Inspect the Antenna connections.

      Are the Antenna connections clean and secure?

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No 

      • Repair the Antenna connection as needed.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  3. CHECK THE (D8) GPS ANTENNA AND CABLE 
    1. Connect the 9977-6-GPS GLONASS test antenna (special tool #9977-6-GPS-GLO, Antenna, GPS GLONASS) to the antenna connection on the back of the TBM2.
    2. Using the scan tool, erase the DTCs.
    3. Turn the ignition on.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  5

      No 

      • Go To  4
  4. TEST THE (D8) GPS ANTENNA CABLE 
    1. Disconnect the GPS Antenna cable at the Satellite Antenna.
    2. Connect the appropriate Radio Diagnostic Tool (special tool #9977-6-1, Adapter) or special tool (#9977-6-3, Adapter) to the GPS Antenna cable at the back of the TBM2.
    3. Connect the appropriate Radio Diagnostic Tool (special tool #9977-6-4, Jumper) or special tool (#9977-6-2, Jumper) to the GPS Antenna cable at the GPS Antenna base.
    4. Measure the Resistance across the terminals on the tool.

      Is the resistance below 30.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Use the special tool (#9977-6, Kit, Radio Antenna Diagnostic) to locate the short, repair or replace the GPS Antenna cable as necessary.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  5
  5. TELEMATICS BOX MODULE (TBM2) 
    1. Visually inspect the terminals on the TBM2.
    2. Ensure the terminal is clean and free of any corrosion or damage.
      • Is the terminal free of corrosion and damage?

      Yes 

      No
