Enabling/Set Conditions And Possible Causes - Smart Actuator Faults

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2022 Chrysler Voyager and 2022 Chrysler Pacifica. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

PTU SYSTEM ENABLING CONDITIONS AND FAULT SETTING CRITERIA

The PTU faults have these shared Monitoring Conditions:

Additional Monitoring Conditions for Circuit/Performance/Internal/Mismatch faults:

Additional Monitoring Conditions for Circuit/Performance/Internal/Loss of Communication faults:

FAULT SETTING CRITERIA
(C1495-16/17, C149B-16/17) - Circuit Faults Low/High
  • PTU actuator faults - (C1495-16/17)
  • RDM actuator faults - (C149B-16/17)
The smart actuator detects that the shift fork actuator voltage is above or below a calibrated threshold.
(C1494-92, C1498-92) - Performance Fault (Desired Fork position not reached)
  • PTU actuator faults - (C1494-92)
  • RDM actuator faults - (C1498-92)
The smart actuator detects that the shift fork is not able to achieve the commanded position.
(C1496-92, C1499-92) - Performance Fault (motor position learn failed)
  • PTU actuator faults - (C1496-92)
  • RDM actuator faults - (C1499-92)
The smart actuator position learn routine has failed more than 5 times or an internal failure of the shift fork actuator has been detected.
(C14A7-97, C14A8-97) - Desired Motor Position not reached
  • PTU actuator faults - (C14A7-97)
  • RDM actuator faults - (C14A8-97)
The smart actuator detects that actuator motor is not able to achieve the commanded position.
(C1495-98, C140B-4B, C149B-98) - Smart Actuator Over-temp Faults (temp too high)
  • PTU actuator faults - (C1495-98)
  • RDM actuator faults - (C140B-4B, C149B-98)
PTU smart actuator is overheated due to operation in high ambient conditions or the unit has been operated excessively.
(C1492-00, C1493-00) - Internal actuator performance
  • PTU actuator faults - (C1492-00)
  • RDM actuator faults - (C1493-00)
The smart actuator detects an internal hardware or software issue.
(C2206-00, C2223-00) - Configuration Mismatch fault  The vehicle PROXI configuration is incorrect or an ECU was swapped in from another vehicle.
(U1203-00, U1204-00) - Loss of Communication Fault
  • PTU actuator faults - (U1203-00)
  • RDM actuator faults - (U1204-00)
Will set for one of the following:
  • No messages received from smart actuator for more than 50 ms.
  • No messages received from smart actuator after ignition was turned off for 60 minutes and after the smart actuator was shut down due to an over-temperature condition. (When smart actuator is shut-down due to an over-temp condition and then the customer turns the Ignition off. If ignition has been off for more than 60 minutes, giving the actuator enough time to cool off, then turned back on and the smart actuator still does not communicate, this DTC will set.)
POSSIBLE CAUSES
FUSED B+ SUPPLY TO THE SMART ACTUATOR OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE OR SHORTED TO GROUND (MOTOR CIRCUIT OR PERFORMANCE FAULTS)
FUSED IGNITION SUPPLY TO THE SMART ACTUATOR OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE OR SHORTED TO GROUND (LOSS OF COMMUNICATION FAULTS)
GROUND TO THE SMART ACTUATOR OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
FLUID LEVEL LOW OR INCORRECT (PERFORMANCE AND OVER-TEMP)
MECHANICAL BINDING INSIDE THE ASSEMBLY - PTU OR RDM (PERFORMANCE AND OVER-TEMP)
RDM NOT SPINNING UP PROPELLER SHAFT SPEED DURING ENGAGEMENT (PERFORMANCE AND OVER-TEMP)
INCORRECT VEHICLE CONFIGURATION/INCORRECT DTCM OR SMART ACTUATOR INSTALLED (MISMATCH FAULTS)
FAULTY SMART ACTUATOR
FAULTY DRIVETRAIN CONTROL MODULE (DTCM)
