Theory Of Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2022 Chrysler Voyager and 2022 Chrysler Pacifica. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The Body Control Module (BCM) monitors the normally open Liftgate Release Switch. A ground is provided to the Liftgate Release Switch through the wiring harness, to the body sheet metal.

When the Liftgate Release Switch is depressed, the switch closes and a ground signal is sent to the BCM. When the BCM receives this ground signal, the BCM provides a voltage output, through the Decklid/Liftgate Release Driver circuit, to the Liftgate Latch, which activates and releases the Liftgate. A ground is provided to the Liftgate Latch through the wiring harness, to the body sheet metal.
